Voted Best Municipal Chorus in the 2024 Ovation Awards, The Reston Chorale is a mixed-voice, auditioned chorus with a full repertoire that varies in style from classic rock to choral masterworks.
Membership is open to both teens (generally age 16 and over) and adults of all ages. We strive to be an inclusive ensemble where all members feel welcomed, valued and respected.

The Reston Chorale auditions are designed to provide the artistic director with > information about the applicant's understanding of music and singing. Prepared excerpts (see below), a short sightreading exercise, and a vocal range assessment constitute the audition.
During your audition, you may sing two pieces of contrasting style of your choice* or the following musical excerpts:
*If singing pieces other than those listed above, please bring an extra copy of sheet music for Director Lang's use during the audition.
For the 2025-26 season, The Reston Chorale does not require members to show proof of COVID vaccinations or to wear masks during rehearsals (although members are welcome to wear them.) In the event of a resurgence of COVID or other public health crisis, this policy is subject to change.
The Chorale rehearses on Tuesday nights from 7:00 - 9:30 pm at the Reston Community Center, Hunters Woods, 2310 Colts Neck Road, Reston, VA 20191. Members are expected to attend all regular rehearsals, as well as dress rehearsals. Limited absences will be granted for business travel and/or illness.
To accommodate singers who are not able to attend in person due to illness or business travel, we stream and record rehearsals via Zoom and make them available within two days of the rehearsal.
Annual membership dues for both new and returning members are $325.(High school and college students are eligible for free membership and Robert E. Simon Jr. scholarships.)

Please note that if a new member is referred by two or more people, the $25 credit will be split between the referring members.
Music for each concert is available for purchase at rehearsals. The cost of music usually runs between $20 and $40 per segment.
The Reston Chorale women's formal concert gown and jacket can be purchased from our costume coordinator for approximately $120. Women also wear black hosiery and black shoes. Men are responsible for their own tuxedos with two bow ties and cummerbunds (one black and one red), and white wing-collar tuxedo shirt. (For pops and other concerts, attire may vary, such as all black or black pants/skirts and jewel-toned shirts/blouses.)
Members also purchase The Reston Chorale’s polo shirt for $30, which is worn at outreach concerts and events.
